1066 - King of England, William the Conqueror started a wine-only diet after he became so fat that he couldn’t even ride his horse. He finally died after falling off his beloved horse.
14th century – Oxford English Dictionary first define diet as a prescribed course of food, restricted in kind or limited in quantity especially for medical or penal reasons.
1829 - Graham cracker by Sylvester Graham was the first advertised health foods.
1863 - Atkins like diet by William Banting was established where he advocated a diet heavy in protein.
1903 - Horace Fletcher made the news that by chewing each bite of the food 32 times and then spit out the food would guarantee weight loss.
1909 - Telegraph Herald first offered corsets at Parkers on Main Street. Instant weight loss, resulting in immediate 13-18 inches of waistline, if you can hold your breath long enough.
1925 - Cigarettes were advocated as a weight-loss technique.
1929 - Lulu Hunt Peters wrote in the Telegraph Herald about calories counting for weight loss.
1930s - Debut of Slimming soaps.
1935 - Diet pills became the rage, but the many cases of blindness and fatalities, led it to be removed from the market. It’s the same ingredient used in insecticides.
1991 - One in three Americans are overweight.
2008 - Two in three Americans are overweight.
