Instant weight loss, resulting in immediate 13-18 inches of waistline, if you can hold your breath long enough. 1925 - Cigarettes were advocated as a weight-loss technique. 1929 - Lulu Hunt Peters wrote in the Telegraph Herald about calories counting for weight loss. 1930s - Debut of Slimming soaps. 1935 - Diet pills became the rage, but the many cases of blindness and fatalities, led it to be removed from the market.
