I watched a movie media about an old-school 400m American runner Mike Larrabee. It told of how he was a fine runner but was never good enough. Setbacks after setback, he overcame his past demons with self belief and despite at a late age of 31 years old he proved people wrong and finally made it with two golds at the 1964 Olympics. Truly inspiring He was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer in 2001 and was only expected to live a few weeks, but amazingly defying all odds again he continued to live life to the fullest for two more years. Mike Larrabee died in his home at Santa Maria, California, aged 69. He was posthumously added to the Track and Field Hall of Fame in December of 2003.
I myself am a really late bloomer taking up running and I had some success in various event I’ve tried. I was an ok runner but never good enough. 29 years old now, I’m trying to rebuilt my running ways after my own setbacks. It’s a process that takes years and its something I don’t have. But still running is a personal choice. Conviction got me here and I’ll keep on training as the desire still burns
