The fight against dementia
In my twilight years I hope and wish to be active and healthy of course. I’m planting the ‘seeds’ now so as I can reap the rewards later-on in life.
And another seed I’m sowing and just learned is that senior workers compared to those retired early, are known to have lesser in dementia syndrome.
A study in the UK, King’s College London found that those working for a few more years could help in fending off Alzheimer’s disease longer.
The data which compromises of more than 1,300 participants showed that those who retired later managed to fend off the Alzheimer’s disease longer.
It is noted that an extra year of work resulted in a six-week delay in the onset of dementia.
The researcher was quoted, “The intellectual stimulation that older people gain from the workplace may prevent a decline in mental abilities, thus keeping people above the threshold for dementia for longer. It could also be that working helps keep your mind and body active, which may reduce risk of dementia.”
The study was recently published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry.
