Ohio State University Medical Center is studying gene therapy to solve the increasing problem of obesity. The study involves injecting a gene directly into one of the critical feeding and weight control centers of the brain. The finding shows promise as BDNF gene when injected is said to improve insulin sensitivity, reduced fat mass and weight loss when active in the hypothalamus. Dr. Matthew During of Ohio State University Medical Center says, “Our findings represent a promising new treatment for obesity that could ultimately provide a much safer and more effective approach than some conventional therapies.” I guess gene therapy is inevitable with the rising obesity and huge healthcare cost trailing in its wake. People are no longer getting off their butts to do the old-school method of balanced diet and working-out that truly works. This gene therapy and weight-loss surgery method looks like the alternative of the future for losing weight.
