Top 10 principal cause (Numbers from 16,393 of total deaths in 2006)

  1. Cancer (28.5%) Increasing trend
  2. Ischaemic Heart Disease (18.5%)
  3. Pneumonia (13.7%) Decline
  4. Cerebrovascular Disease including stroke (8.9%)
  5. Accidents, Poisoning & Violence (6.3%)
  6. Other Heart Diseases (4.3%)
  7. Diabetes Mellitus (3.3%)
  8. Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (3.3%)
  9. Urinary Tract Infections (2.0%)
  10. Nephritis, Nephrotic Syndrome & Nephrosis (1.7%)

Well stats don’t lie and here are the figures from the 2006, the latest from MOH. As you can see cancer tops the chart at a staggering 28.5% of all deaths. That’s scary. Of course there was no breakdown of the types of cancer causing the death, but the numbers is a bleak reminder of the fragility of life

Well half the cause of deaths on the list can be prevented if one is likely to change his or her life on a more active basis. Changes like better eating habits, a less stressful lifestyle at home or work and such. It’s really up to the individual but being creature of comfort we are, we take the ignorant and easy way out. I don’t mean go out there and train like an Olympian but living your life the ‘smarter’ way will give your a life that most people are seeking but always afraid to act upon … longevity and better quality of life.

Aside from fate which we never know what holds around the corner, everyone should and have every opportunity to make the best of their life. Our bodies are self-healing by nature and naturally it would mend aches, cuts, bruises over time without intervention. When one gets terribly sick, I think there’s a certain imbalance in his/her life that was subjected for prolong period of time that resulted in the ailment

There was once when a person emailed me on trying to become slim and fit but without the hassle effort of exercising and diet. I reverted back replying nicely that effort is needed to get what he wants, but still the fella persist with his loony idea. I gave up after trying to help him. I have always believe that knowledge is power and we’re living in an age of great advancement. The information is at the tip of our finger and you better well use it. There’s no excuse why not

  • Procrastination
  • Fear
  • Rejection
  • Failure
  • Just plain lazy ignorant & couldn’t be bother perhaps

Well what ever the reason for you not taking up this change in your life, you should think again and look at the list of top ten cause of death in Singapore. Maybe one day you would like to be added to the list, that is if you don’t act anytime now. Trust me, the change is worth it :)
