A nation of obesity
A recent study released have found that the bad state of current economic crisis are leading to higher obesity rate.
USA is becoming the fattest nations in the world, where some 27 per cent of adults and 30 per cent of children are considered obese.
The study found as food prices increases, in particular healthy food, people are turning to cheaper alternatives such as junk food.
More families are unable to provide a balance and nutritious diet for their family.
Also the crisis is the source to increasing stress, anxiety and depression, where being unemployed leads to increased obesity.
The researcher was quoted, “As people lose jobs, they also lose their employer-sponsored health insurance and access to health and wellness services that support healthier lifestyles. Government programs that serve the poor and uninsured cannot fully mitigate the recession’s negative impact as increased demand strains available services. We’ve got to challenge the restaurant industry and fast-food restaurants to serve healthier foods, serve less processed and contaminated meals, to make people cognizant of what exactly they are eating. Just because families don’t have a lot of money does not mean that their money can’t be used wisely on cheap, affordable produce at H-E-B or another grocery store”.
I truly believe obesity, unemployment, recession goes hand-in-hand, so let’s hope the economy will bounce back eh.
