Did you know that an estimated 16 percent of children and adolescents ages 6-19 years are overweight in the US.
UK alone is spending £372 million to combat childhood obesity.
That’s a staggering figure right and I blame the parents for getting their kids big, obese and fraught with health related issues as they grow-up
Childhood obesity is caused by:
- Nutrition. Kids are eating larger portions of food compared to two decades ago. Not only they’re eating more, but they’re also consuming all the wrong food groups that’s laden with high-fat, high calorie junk foods.
- They learn to eat bad from their family. Such behaviorism is learnt at a young age, so be a good role model!
- Sedentary environments where there’s a lack of physical activity. You can’t compare Wii tennis with the actual tennis playing.
- Lack of sleep. The recovery part fall short which increases the risk of childhood obesity.
- Genetics. You can’t run away from this. Some people are just born with a family history of obesity.
- Some body malfunction such as underactive thyroid which is generally associated with some weight gain. This one, well I feel sorry for the lad as there’s nothing you can do about it
