In the recent January publication of ‘Journal of Nutrition’, a study by University of California was featured on calorie restriction, whether is affects or extends life.
The research found that calorie restriction does not extend one’s life despite the current notion that it delays the effects of aging.
The study has two strains of mice. One mice has “fat” strain gene and the other “lean” strain gene.
Both are tested with calorie restriction, and it showed that the fatter mice benefits from the test and the leaner one did not.
The scientist commented, “Our study questions the paradigm that caloric restriction is universally beneficial. Contrary to what is widely believed, caloric restriction does not extend life span of all strains of mice. Your energy expenditure and your energy intake should be in balance. It’s as simple as that. And how do you know that? By gain or loss of weight. The whole thing is very commonsensical.”
So basically what the study tries to explain is that calorie restriction is great for obese people combined with physical exercise.
While for those who are healthy, just have a balanced life and try not to mess-up your diet.
