This is news to me … its about brown fat.
What is it? Well brown fat is brown adipose tissue or BAT. It is one of the two types of adipose tissue that is present in us. Its primary function is to generate body heat.
Three studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine reveals the same result, that this brown fat still exists in the bodies of adults and can be activated to lose fat.
The study had some volunteers being exposed to the low 60’s temperatures. Scans was taken and the results got back showed some 500 calories is burned when exposed to the cold condition.
Personally I think albeit positive results in the study, I wouldn’t want to be in the cold for long-time to lose weight. That would be just torture for me as I hate cold. Give me a 30 minute jog instead anytime!
